My husband Jim and I spent a large portion of our afternoon at Craft Beer Co. yesterday – a great place to hang out to avoid the snowy cold day in London!
Where: In Central London in the Clerkenwell neighborhood. The location I’ve linked to is the original location, which is what my review this time around is based upon. See map.
Why you should visit: It opened in July 2011 and is thriving, especially considering they’ve opened 3 other locations since. If you’re a craft beer lover, then you have to put this place on your list if you’re living in or visiting London. And, for us Americans, it’s also a great place to go to if you want to get American craft beer, though their selection is not limited just to US beers. It includes local UK beers as well as lots of other European varieties. I’d estimate they have at least 20 beers on tap including cask ales and keg beers, as well as hundreds of bottles.
Overall Comments: I absolutely love the service we receive every time we visit here (this was our 3rd time) and this alone is what will keep me coming back regularly. The bartenders are knowledgeable and eager to share the descriptions of the beers with you and even some interesting facts about where they come from and how they’re made. Yesterday was unusually empty inside due to the freezing, snowy conditions outside, but the other times I’ve been here it has been crowded. In addition to the main area you see on the above picture, there’s also an upstairs with 4 or 5 tables. I had an Imperial Creme Brulee milk Stout from Southern Tier Brewing Company in NY, and a Mikkeller Oyster Stout which were both dark malty beers and very flavorful. With a relaxed and laid back atmosphere, this is the perfect spot for other beer enthusiasts to meet.
