Craft Beer scene alive at London Fields Brewery

London Fields Brewery

Where: In Hackney, East London. See map.

Why you should visit:  London Fields Brewery opened in August 2011, right around the time all the riots broke out in various parts of London, including in the borough of Hackney where the brewery was getting ready to emerge into the London beer scene. As a result one of their red ales is named “Love, Not War”. (see link above for more information).   The Brewhouse that customers can visit is under the railway arches nearby to the brewery and it is a really unique, fun place to go to on a Saturday afternoon/evening to relax with friends.

Overall Comments:  My husband and I visited for the first time in August 2012. It took us awhile to actually find the place, as it seemed like we were going to a deserted area near the railway arches. But as we turned a corner, we saw the above scene. The beer is all served at a bar underneath the railway.  There is also a separate food stand, unaffiliated with the brewery, but it works great.  I have to say it’s a really smart idea for the owners to bring in this food stand – helps  to increase business for their pop up brewhouse when people want to spend a few hours there on a weekend eating and drinking.  They had a selection of 4 or 5 different beers, including a pale ale, an IPA, a red ale, and an unfiltered wheat beer. When we visited again in October, there was live music there that started around 4 pm.  So we watched a great band from Nottingham, the Injured Birds, playing really original indie folk music. What a great way to spend a Saturday on another dreary day in London!  Visited in August and October 2012
