Life doesn’t stay the same. That’s the fun of it, right? So after two years living in London, we’re back home to an area where I lived for eight years prior to life abroad. With that, my blog’s direction also has to evolve.
A few things that definitely won’t change –
My focus on discovering great beer and breweries!
It is and always will be a personal passion for both Jim and I. We’ve been out of the US beer scene for two years and in that time there’s been an unbelievable amount of changes to the market. This is also my first time ever writing about American beer so I can’t wait to get started. I promise I’ll keep the beer articles coming…
Travel Stories and Experiences
I won’t come close to the 20+ country whirlwind traveling tour I experienced throughout the past two years, but with a move back to the States we do hope to do more USA related travel – and so I will always be on the lookout for new places to experience.
Additionally, I’ll be filling you in on many of the stories I still haven’t shared from my recent travel to other countries, so I can guarantee there will be no shortage of new travel insights.
Other fun new additions –
Readjusting from Expat Life
Thanks to some amazing travel events and conferences I’ve attended over the last year, I’ve met many other travel writers and bloggers similar to me. Some who don’t have a home base, some who do. Some who have are currently expats and some who have also returned home.
With all of that, there is change. Lots of it!
I will write some stories about re-adjusting to the life I was used to before all of my traveling and new life in a different country – what’s great, what’s not so great and how I cope with all that ongoing change, topics I hope many of my new friends can understand and even relate to.
New York City
From the time I first visited New York as a child, I knew that I would live in New York, and that somehow this city would forever change my life. Sadly, though, I’ve never written about it.
So with my newfound love of travel writing, there’s so much I want to write about this city, and I look forward to sharing some interesting experiences with my readers.
Life as a Jersey Girl
Jim was born and raised in New Jersey and receives sole credit for introducing me to all-things-Jersey from the moment I met him in 2007. From the fall of 2008 until I moved to London in January 2012, we lived in Jersey City, a place I resisted moving to at first.
But once I was there, I never wanted to leave! Now that we’re back in the US, we had the opportunity to again live in Manhattan. But for me that wasn’t even on my list of possible places to consider…
Jersey City was what I wanted!
From time to time you’ll also find me in Belmar, near the beach in the Jersey shore, where my in-laws live and the beach Jim and I regularly frequent during the summer season. The Jersey shore is an interesting and fun place and I know I’ll find a few good stories to share with you.
I promise to keep the stories coming! I hope you’ll continue along the journey with me…

Hey Tanya!
Great post on transitioning your life and blog from being an expat in Europe to returning to the USA. It was awesome meeting and hanging out in Europe and we’ll too discover soon enough what life will be like transitioning back to the USA…after 6 years living in Europe.
The thing I will probably most look forward to is all that tasty American beer! 🙂

Hi Alex –
Please keep me updated on how your move back to the US goes too. Glad you liked the post. You won’t be disappointed by the American craft beer selection – it’s amazing!

Hey again!
We’re officially moving to Boston! Bellinda is starting a position there May 15th in the private sector, she’s leaving the university world. So if you and Jim happen to be heading to Boston this summer let us know!
We have other friends in the NYC area so we’ll definitely be in your neck of the woods in the next year. Will be keeping up with your blog and look forward to chatting over some awesome beer in either of these great rival cities!! 😀

Awesome! We’ll definitely be chatting over some beer. I’m in the process to figure out how to incorporate my passion for beer into a business (more soon)…also why my blog entries are a little less frequent. Good luck on the move back and please tell Belinda congrats from me.

Wonderful! I’m looking forward to hearing what you come up with in terms of your work with great beer 🙂
I haven’t written about beer in ages, Ireland is so small so new stuff comes out at a snails pace. I feel like I’ve lost a bit of passion for it, but hopefully this will be rejuvenated with the move back to the USA. Keep up the good work! 🙂
